Summer Mountain Games

Happy birthday to me! And it's been a great birthday.

Today we headed to Vail for the Summer Mountain Games. We were supposed to go there in February for the Winter Mountain Games but weather and illness kept us from going. So I was very excited that we were going to the Summer Mountain Games for my birthday.

Just as a warning, this is going to be a pretty photo heavy post.

Because of gorgeous backdrops like this. And the guy's is pretty hot too.

The weather was absolutely perfect and there was a lot to see.

Hello, porcupine!

People weren't kidding when they say that Vail is beautiful. And because it is a rich tourist town, the town was not only beautiful but quaint and lovely. The lifts were near the lodges so in the winter you can just head out the door and hit the slopes.

Yes, there is still snow on the slopes. We walked here from the car

There is also an adorable outdoor mall that the vendors were set up at. And one of the main sporting events, slacklining, took place in the courtyard.

Behind us is part of the mall

There were all types of sporting events going on that you couldn't even try to catch all of it. But the events that we did see were pretty amazing: bouldering competition, kayak freestyling, slacklining and more.

Holy crap! How does she do that?!

Kayak freestyling. Seems so dangerous to do tricks

Slacklining is so cool!

And there were even events where anyone could participate. While we were driving into Vail, we saw runners running the 10K and they even had a mud run that you could participate in. They also had a bunch of events for dogs!

We felt unprepared because almost everyone we saw had bikes, running strollers with their kids, paddleboards, dogs, you name it. And it's not like they were all participating in events. They brought them just because. Amazing. So guess what we'll be doing next year?

As you can see there was a lot to see for the event, but I will now share some photos of the incredible natural things that we saw.

It was an amazing day and meeting up with a friend for lunch was icing on the cake. And to complete the awesome day, here is what I had for dessert. I was sticking to the stereotype.

One's David's, I swear.

And to complete the great post, my 26 week bump!

Oh, and if you would like to see more photos from the Games, go here Summer Mountain Games photos!

    1. yeah. It's definitely not a weekly thing. But it's worth going every once in a while.
