Honeymoon Adventures Part 1

Now that we are playing the waiting game and I am finding ways to fill my time to keep me distracted, I realized I never shared our honeymoon photos. Or even talked about it. And it was an amazing trip!! Well, one of the reasons why is that we have photos but we have a lot of footage on the GoPro that we wanted to cap and share. Unfortunately, that footage is inaccessible at the moment so when we can get access to them again, I'll try to cap some and put it up in the album so check back in a bit.

So, I am finally going to talk about our awesome honeymoon and share pictures of a time when I did not have a belly. Also, I am breaking this up in 2 parts because I want to talk about the food separately. It was so delicious that it deserves its own post.

My best friend was also leaving the same day we were leaving for Nassau, New Providence. So we got to the airport really early, that way our friend could drop us off at once, which had us at the Ruby Tuesdays for lunch.

Our first drinks of the honeymoon

The flight there was not eventful. It was only a 45 minute flight so thank God nothing happened in that short period of time. After going through customs we immediately noticed that the weather was just like Florida's but with a constant breeze. It was really nice.

I would like to insert here something about the drivers. They are crazy! The amount of tailgating, lane weaving and accelerating was unbelievable. And, yes, bus drivers did this as well, which made it worse because sometimes the doors to the bus would be broken. So when they did some crazy braking or turning, the door would swing open and shut from the force. And there were no seatbelts. I am so glad we decided not to rent bikes or a car during our stay. If you do need to travel in Nassau, you are better off riding the bus for $2.50 or paying $20 for a cab when the buses aren't running or it's some place they don't have a route to. Luckily, we had shuttles pick us up for our excursions so those rides were relatively safe and dependable. Also, this:

One of the buses we were on just had to stop for gas

Now back to our trip.

We did not stay at Atlantis on Paradise Island because it is crazy expensive. But the Sheraton we stayed at was nice, old but nice. Downside was that we had some mold in our first room but they quickly moved us to a different one that was mold-free. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The resort itself was not crowded because it was the off season and we arrived on a weekday.

Our first day there and David is already settled

We met with an event coordinator to make sure we were able to register for all the things that we wanted to do. And we totally packed our week! We decided that the best way to maximize our stay was to do one big thing each day and putz around for the rest of the day. It turned out to be a good decision.

Our agenda for the week. Dolphin Encounter, SCUBA, snorkel, tour of city

The next day, Tuesday, we swam with a dolphin! And it was so great! It was on a different island so we were ferried there in the morning. And the cool thing was that you could stay on that island for as long as you wanted as long as the ferries were running. There was definitely a lot of other stuff to do besides the dolphin encounters. They had touch tanks, a beach to lounge on and places to eat and more This is where capping some footage with the GoPro would have been handy. Not only did we interact with the dolphin but we had the chance to be propelled by 2 dolphins, one pushing each foot across the lagoon we were in. It was AMAZING. We bought the one souvenir from our trip here and it was photos we took with the dolphin.

We lingered for a little while on the island but not long because we wanted to try the local foods. So we headed back and got ready for dinner.

The next day, Wednesday, we were taken to the south side of the island where we were going to scuba diving. You can actually scuba dive without a license up to 30 feet which I did not know. There was only one other couple in the group we were in so we got to have a guide all our own. The water was cool, visibility was great and our instructor was very good. It was so peaceful underwater. And we got to see beautiful coral with colorful fish swimming around us. Didn't taken any pictures; everything was captured on the GoPro.

Thursday was a super chill day. It was our snorkel day and we were taken out into the reefs on a catamaran. It was so peaceful and the day was incredibly gorgeous. Sun shining, free drink, great visibility...  we could not ask for a more perfect day.

There were other excursion boats that were snorkeling in the area we were but it didn't really feel crowded. Not until you got close to a boat where people felt the safest. However, David and I are not lame so we swam all over the place and tried free diving.

Friday was the one day it rained which was fine because that was the day we were taking a tour around Nassau. It wasn't very eventful but we were leaving the next day and wanted our last day to be relaxing. We weren't sure what to expect because the city is pretty small but it ended up being pretty interesting. Our guide showed us a bunch of historical sites in the area and took us through the front of Atlantis.

So after our tour, we went back to the resort and went parasailing! It's actually very relaxing once you are actually up in the air. You don't really hear anything and it's like your floating. It was pretty incredible. Once we did our last big fun thing we chilled on the beach and paddleboarded around for a bit.

I'm glad we decided to fly directly to Nassau and not take a cruise because we wouldn't have been able to do all the neat things that we did. We did visit Bay Street during our stay but there really isn't much to see unless you were doing some crazy shopping, which we weren't. We really wanted a trip where all we did was cool stuff and we accomplished that mission. We left on a Saturday because we wanted to give ourselves a day to adjust being back in the real world before going back to work.

Tired.

Hopefully I will be able to post about the awesome food and drinks we had while we were there soon-ish.
